Welcome to the Databases and Information Systems (DBIS) Group at the University of Basel

The main focus of the DBIS group is the development of novel database concepts and their application to large-scale distributed information systems, in particular to Data Management in the Cloud, Multimedia Information Retrieval, and Service-oriented Architectures & Process-based Systems (Workflows). From a technical perspective, this includes aspects of distribution, reliability, scalability, mobility, heterogeneity, dynamic adaptability, and semantics. The results of this work are applied to various fields like Crowdsourcing applications, e-Health or e-Science.

We’re happy to finally share the results of our special photography session of this year’s Databases and Information Systems Group, University of Basel BBQ, which used technology from the 1880. The wait was well worth it, and the final prints beautifully capture the charm of historical photography.

This week, we wrapped up the second part of our multi-part Hackathon on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), hosted once again by Philip Eschenbacher from MongoDB at the University of Basel. During this phase, our teams took their RAG-powered projects to the next level, refining their chatbot integrations, tackling real-world use-cases, and proposing tools to provide trust to users and administrators. Stay tuned for more updates!
