Description

Polystores provide a new method of managing the ever-increasing volume and variety of data that is generated today. By being able to handle OLTP as well as OLAP queries in a single system, the processing of small and large workloads is greatly simplified. Geospatial data describes information with reference to a location on earth. This includes points, lines, areas and other more complex shapes. To make working this data feasible, the database must have support for certain types and functions that allows the user select, filter, modify and view the data. This thesis aims to address this problem by extending the polystore database system Polypheny by extending it in a way that allows the execution of GIS queries in all models of Polypheny. To not only make it possible to work with geospatial data, but also make it practical, a system for visualizing query results will be implemented, that aims to help the user to interpret the data directly. Since many scientists working with geospatial data have limited programming skills, the visualization system will include user-friendly query-building features, that make it more intuitive as well as faster get insights about the data.
